The main objective of TRIMAX (Development of a heat engine based on the trilateral flash cycle (tfc) for maximization of heat to power conversion efficiency of low temperature waste heat) is to develop, manufacture and assess experimentally in real environment a heat engine based on the Trilateral Flash Cycle (TFC), of 10-15 kW capacity which at low temperature (up to 130 oC). The aim is to improve the heat to power conversion efficiency up to 20% in comparison with the traditional Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) that is almost exclusively applied.

Two basic characteristics of TFC assist towards achieving this objective:

– avoidance of isothermal evaporation process

– adjustment of pinch-point during heat addition.

Both ameliorate efficiency according to first and second law of thermodynamics. The commercial prospects concern the low grade heat recovery in the industrial sector and biogas.
